Quick answer

A dental implant in Turkey is a titanium post placed in the jawbone that, once healed, supports a crown, bridge or denture. It suits adults with missing teeth, healthy gums and enough bone. Most people need two trips, a few months apart. A dentist confirms suitability from your x-ray before anything is booked.

Suitability is always confirmed by a dentist after reviewing your x-ray.

Overview

A dental implant is a small screw-shaped post, usually made of titanium or a titanium alloy, that replaces the root of a missing tooth. Over the following months the bone heals tightly around it (osseointegration), and a crown, bridge or implant-retained denture is then fixed on top. Implants are one of several ways to replace missing teeth, alongside bridges and dentures, and are often preferred because they do not rely on neighbouring teeth for support. Treatment is planned from a panoramic x-ray and, where needed, a 3D (CBCT) scan, and is carried out by a dentist at a licensed clinic in Antalya. Health Talia coordinates implant care in Antalya: it arranges a free x-ray review and a written treatment plan from the treating dentist before you travel, and plans the surgery and crown-fitting visits so the healing gap suits your diary.

Who is it for?

  • Adults missing one, several or all teeth, or with a tooth that cannot be saved.
  • People who want a fixed replacement rather than a removable denture.
  • Patients with healthy gums and enough jawbone, or bone that can be rebuilt with grafting.
  • People who want to avoid cutting down healthy neighbouring teeth for a conventional bridge.
  • Patients able to keep up daily cleaning and regular check-ups at home.

Who it isn't for

  • Children and teenagers whose jaws are still growing.
  • People with untreated gum disease or active infection — this needs treating first.
  • Patients with uncontrolled diabetes or other uncontrolled medical conditions, until these are stabilised.
  • Anyone who has had radiotherapy to the jaw, or takes (or has taken) bone-modifying drugs such as bisphosphonates or denosumab, without specialist assessment.
  • Heavy smokers who cannot cut down: smoking clearly raises the risk of implant failure and gum problems around implants.
  • Pregnant patients, for whom elective surgery and x-rays are usually postponed.

How it works

  1. 1

    Free remote assessment

Send a recent panoramic x-ray (OPG) and photos on WhatsApp. A dentist reviews them and prepares a provisional plan. A 3D scan in the clinic may change the plan, and you are told before anything proceeds.

  2. 2

    Examination and planning

In Antalya the dentist examines you, reviews your medical history and medicines, and explains the plan, alternatives, risks and costs in writing before you consent.

  3. 3

    Implant placement

Under local anaesthetic (sedation can be discussed), the implant is placed in the jawbone. Most patients feel pressure rather than pain and return to their hotel the same day.

  4. 4

    Healing (osseointegration)

The bone bonds to the implant over roughly three to six months, depending on bone quality and whether grafting was needed. A temporary tooth or denture can often be worn meanwhile.

  5. 5

    Final crown or bridge

On a second trip the dentist checks healing, takes a scan or impression, and fits the final crown or bridge, then adjusts your bite.

How long you stay

Most patients make two trips. The first is usually around 5–7 days in Antalya for examination, 3D scan, implant placement and a check-up before flying. The second, typically three to six months later, is around 5–7 days for the final crown or bridge. Bone grafting or a sinus lift can lengthen healing time. Some suitable cases have a temporary tooth fitted on the first trip.

Treatment time

Implant placement usually takes one to two hours per session; the final crown is fitted after healing.

Recovery

Most people return to light activities the next day. Swelling, mild bruising and soreness usually peak around day two or three and settle within a week. Eat soft food and avoid smoking, alcohol and strenuous exercise for the first days, and follow the cleaning instructions you are given.

Pricing

Treatment in Antalya is often lower cost than comparable private treatment in the UK and EU. Your written quote follows a dentist’s review of your x-ray and lists the implant, abutment, crown and any grafting separately.

Risks and how they are managed

  • Pain, swelling and bruising after surgery — usually short-lived and managed with simple painkillers and cold compresses.
  • Infection — reduced by sterile technique, careful cleaning at home and, where the dentist judges it necessary, antibiotics.
  • Implant not integrating with the bone — uncommon but more likely in smokers and people with uncontrolled diabetes; the implant can usually be removed and replaced after healing.
  • Nerve irritation causing numbness of the lip or chin, or sinus involvement in the upper jaw — minimised by x-ray and 3D-scan planning around these structures.
  • Peri-implantitis (gum and bone inflammation around an implant) years later — reduced by good daily cleaning, not smoking and regular professional check-ups.
  • Mechanical problems such as a loose screw or chipped crown — usually repairable, which is why keeping your implant documentation matters.

Materials used

  • Titanium or titanium-alloy implants from established international implant systems with a long clinical track record.
  • Titanium or zirconia abutments connecting the implant to the crown.
  • Crowns in zirconia or porcelain (ceramic), chosen for strength and appearance.
  • Where needed, bone-graft materials (from your own bone, processed animal bone or synthetic substitutes) and collagen membranes.
  • Ask for written implant documentation — system, size and batch — so any dentist at home can maintain or repair it.

Material types only — the exact system and brand are named in your written treatment plan.

Frequently asked questions

Who carries out my treatment, and what does Health Talia do?

Your treatment is carried out by an experienced dentist at a licensed clinic in Antalya, and you are told who will treat you before you book. Health Talia is a health tourism agency: we arrange the free x-ray review, your written quote, appointments, a hotel near the clinic, free VIP airport transfers and follow-up on WhatsApp after you return home.

Does it hurt?

The procedure is done under local anaesthetic, so most patients feel pressure rather than pain. Soreness and swelling for a few days afterwards are normal and usually managed with over-the-counter painkillers. Sedation can be discussed if you are anxious.

How long do implants last?

Long-term studies commonly report that well over 90% of implants are still in place after ten years. How long yours lasts depends on your gum health, cleaning, smoking and check-ups. The crown on top wears and may need replacing after many years.

How many trips to Turkey do I need?

Usually two: one for implant placement and one, three to six months later, for the final crown or bridge. In selected cases a temporary tooth is fitted on the first trip, but the final crown still waits for healing.

What if I have bone loss?

Bone grafting or a sinus lift can often rebuild the area, sometimes at the same appointment as the implant and sometimes months before. This is decided from a 3D scan, and it can add healing time.

Can I fly home after implant surgery?

Many dentists advise waiting at least a day or two after straightforward implant surgery before flying, and longer after a sinus lift. Your dentist confirms when it is safe to fly before you book your return.

What happens if something goes wrong after I return home?

Contact the team on WhatsApp with photos; the treating clinic reviews them and advises. Minor issues can often be handled remotely or by a local dentist; others may need a return visit. For urgent problems, seek local urgent dental care. Ask before treatment who covers remedial work and travel.

Is it safe to have implants in Turkey?

Safety depends on the clinic, the dentist, the planning and the aftercare rather than the country. Check that the clinic is licensed, ask who will treat you and their qualifications, get a written plan, and keep your implant documentation.

What is included, and is there a guarantee?

Your written plan lists every clinical item — scans, implant, abutment, crown and any grafting — plus your hotel nights near the clinic and free VIP airport transfers. Any warranty is set by the treating clinic; ask what it covers and its conditions, such as regular check-ups.

Implant or bridge — which is better?

Neither is better for everyone. An implant does not need neighbouring teeth to be cut down and helps preserve bone, but it involves surgery and months of healing. A bridge is quicker and non-surgical but relies on the adjacent teeth. The dentist explains both from your x-ray.

Can I have implants if I smoke?

Often yes, but smoking clearly raises the risk of the implant not integrating and of gum problems around it later. Most dentists advise stopping for at least a couple of weeks around surgery and ideally for good. Be honest about smoking at your assessment.
